Type of papers

Cuestiones Económicas publishes two article formats (a) regular and (b) short.

a) Regular paper: contains up to 10,000 words including titles, tables, graphs and references. Authors may include the number of tables, graphics The methodology may be qualitative or quantitative.

The structure of the regular article contains the following sections:

• -Introduction
• -Review of the literature
• -Materials and methods
• -Results and limitations
• -Conclusions and discussion
• -References
• -Annexes (optional)

b) Short paper: contains between 3,000 and 5,000 words with a maximum of 5 graphs and/or figures, and a minimum of 15 references. The methodology is strictly quantitative. The presentation of contents must be direct, precise and make a significant contribution to knowledge.

The structure of the short article contains the following sections:

• -Introduction
• -Materials and methods
• -Results and limitations
• -Conclusions
• -References

Within the introduction you should present and motivate your research question based on the current state of the art, for which you should cite at least 15 relevant publications, contrast it with your research and highlight the contribution of the research in the particular field of knowledge.

Organization

Authors' information (first page)

• -Title of the paper in English and Spanish.
• -Names of the author and/or authors with their institutional affiliation: a) full name of the institution of origin, b) city and country, c) e-mail and d) ORCID.
• -Abstract of the paper in English and Spanish, up to 200 words
• -Keywords in English and Spanish.
• -JEL code (Journal of Economic Literature)

If the research has received any type of funding, include the name of the institution. In addition, include if there is any conflict of interest.

Title

It should be concise, precise, and reflect the essence of the research. Avoid long titles that include secondary information such as methodology or data.

Abstract

In less than 200 words, the paper, the research question and purpose of the study should be presented in a general way. It should necessarily present the methods used and summarize the main results of the study and its conclusions.

Note: it should not include citations or references, abbreviations, or results not presented in the body of the paper.

Introduction

The introduction should present in a broad sense the context and highlight the motivation, importance and contribution of the research. Next, it should present the research question and its scope, the current state of the economic literature using the most relevant references. Finally, it should briefly comment on the methodology and conclusions obtained. It is important to highlight the theoretical, empirical and/or methodological contribution of the research relative to previous literature.

Literature review

The literature review or theoretical frame of reference should present a complete review of previous research in the field of research. It should organize the content in such a way that it presents all the hypotheses and/or findings found in previous research. It is important to highlight controversial or divergent hypotheses and/or findings and contrast them with your research question so that the reader can understand the relevance of your study. Authors may organize this section with subsections if deemed necessary.

Materials and methods

In this section, the authors should explain and justify the materials and methods used in their research. In research using quantitative methods, a description of the database should be given, citing the source and including a link to the website of the source of information if it is public. You should describe and justify the method used in terms of the research question and its scope. It is recommended that you compare your materials and methods with other research in order to account for coincidences and/or differences. The authors may organize this section with subsections if they consider it necessary.

Results and limitations

This section should present clearly, concisely and precisely all the findings that answer the research question. It is important to structure it in an orderly manner so that it is intuitive to follow each of the findings. The main results should be contrasted with those found in previous research cited in the literature review section. In this sense, the authors should discuss the scope and limitations of their results according to the study context, method and materials.

Tables and figures should be referenced in the text and numbered in ascending order. Figures should have excellent resolution quality and not be distorted and/or pixelated. The following is an example of a figure and a table.

When referring to a table or figure in the text of the paper mention as it appears in the title. For example, "Table 1 shows descriptive statistics".

Variable names within the table should be self-referential; do not include variable codes as they appear in the statistical package (e.g., Educ), but Schooling. In some contexts, it is recommended to include a descriptive statistics table with the name, legend, unit of measurement and descriptive statistics for each variable.

If you include econometric analysis you should include symbols within the table that refer to the statistical significance and include the legend at the end of the table.

Eg. * p<0.05, ** p<0.01, *** p<0.001.

Conclusions and discussion

It should be presented in a direct way how the research question was answered and mention its main findings. It is important to highlight the contribution of the study and discuss its implications for future research.

References

The bibliography should be at the end of the paper on a separate page of the text, in alphabetical order by author’s surnames. In the case of two or more publications by the same author, it should be arranged by year of publication.

The references should have a French indentation of the left margin of 1.27cm for each entry.

Citation

Citations included in the text and at the end of the paper in the References section should be subject to the seventh generation APA (American Psycological Asociation) standards. The citation in the text should be indicated with the author's name and year; if it is a textual citation, indicate the page.

Two authors

E.g. (Yaselga and Aguirre, 2018) or Yaselga and Aguirre (2018) find .......

Short textual quotations (up to 40 words) should be enclosed in double quotation marks. The period comes after the quotation.

E.g. "Uncertainty also responds to external conditions, given the high dependence on the country's main export products, concentrated in raw materials and with little added value" (ECLAC, 2021, p.3).

The textual quotation of more than 40 words is written separately from the text with an indentation of 1 cm (additional to the page margin) and double spacing. The period is placed before the quotation.
Eg. Long-term stability is not achieved at the same time by all inflation components, as contractual or market restrictions slow down the transmission of information regarding the exchange rate movement to the rest of the price structure they face (Cruz et al. 2015).

It should be listed it using capital letters (Appendix A, Appendix B...).

• -Remember that the paper should not be under review in another journal.
• -Verify that you have included all the information in the authors' data sheet.
• -Carefully review the wording and grammatical structure of the entire content of the paper.
• -Check that the graphs and tables have a high-quality resolution and are understandable.
• -Check that the numbering of the graphs and tables are consistent with the mention in the text.
• -Check in the text of the paper that the numbering of graphs and tables is correct.
