Cuestiones Económicas is the emblematic academic publication of the Central Bank of Ecuador (BCE), whose main objective is to disseminate high-level, original research from economic, monetary and financial disciplines to national and international academics, economic professionals, as well as to the society in general. The Journal was established in 1979 with the objective, as defined in its first issue, to analyze the human experience from an economic perspective with a particular focus on the Ecuadorian society.

In its 40 years of contribution, Cuestiones Económicas has established itself as a central point of reference with respect to economic investigation. Since being launched, Cuestiones Económicas has published hundreds of papers including the works of prestigious authors such as Joseph Stiglitz (Nobel Prize in Economics), Benjamín Cohen, and Félix Varela, among others.

Through its ongoing commitment, the Journal has become a space where formal economic research related to Ecuador and the region consolidates to form a base of knowledge necessary to inform and improve the quality of academic and public policy debates. In a similar fashion, the evolving base of knowledge published by Cuestiones Económicas contributes to the quality of economic research in general by providing a benchmark against which economic, monetary and financial research can be measured, in terms of academic influence and policy impact.
